Zyphyr is a Chinese academic, educated for over 10 years in the United States. He runs his own channel on China’s YouTube, called Bilibili.
I’ve been told that he is followed by 4-5 million people in and outside China, but I do not know for how long; it can hardly be per day, but what do I know? Quite a few things are unbelievable in China.
Anyhow, he was such a delight to work with. See the almost 40-minute-long conversation we had on January 23, 2026.
And here is an observation that may make you think:
Chinese media are eager for Westerners to provide comments, share views, and write columns. I am one of them. Many of their best media people have lived in the West, worked or been educated there. Now, how many Chinese do you know of who play the same constructive bridge-building roles in Western media, whether mainstream or not? And how many Western media people have any personal experience from living in China?
