If the EU becomes a criminal Union some don’t want you to know

For instance EU and other Western mainstream media. But we are getting out! The European Union is about to sign an agreement with non-EU Turkey to get rid of a large part of its refugees – by paying around € 6 bn to Turkey. Amnesty International and many others have pointed out – in strong words – that this agreement violates basic provisions of international law and human rights norms. This is the text I wrote on March 16 in TFF PressInfo # 367. As far as I’ve been able to check, no mainstream Western media has made any use of this text, let alone contacted me for comments. Instead it has been circulated widely by social media, spread to the rest of the world by the excellent Human Wrongs Watch, by the largest alternative news agency, International Press Service (also in Spanish) and I had a chance to refer to it on Russia Today (see another post here on my site) with between 600 and 700 million viewers. The leading alternative Counterpunch in the U.S. featured it too. And if you google – “Will the EU become a criminal Union tomorrow – you’ll see it featured also in Equador, in Canada by Global Research, etc. The worldwide PressEnza Hongkong took it. So did the Other News. Information that markets eliminate. The WN – World News Network. There are many others, of course. And more to come, surely. Who is not using such […]

Denmark to attack in Syria – too

Something is rotten in the State of Denmark and the world will increasingly see it. It’s an unpleasant combination of Islamophobia, militarism and a peculiar ethical and intellectual self-destructive obedience to US/NATO all wrapped up in a pseudo-humanitarian flag. It’s important that intellectuals criticise the policies of their native country and not only and politically correctly criticise that of others. In the case of Danish foreign and security policy it is fairly easy to do so provided you are supported neither by that country’s state nor its corporations. TFF and I myself are not supported by government or corporate money. We like free research and freedom of expression so much, believing it is essential for a freer and more democratic world. On March 4, 2016 a large majority of Danish political parties agreed to send F 16s and special forces into Syria. It happened in consequence of a request from the U.S., of course. I’ve put this – fateful – decision in perspective here in TFF PressInfo # 365.

Commenting on NATO S-G Jens Stoltenberg’s wish for dialogue with Russia – a bit odd after all the other provocative initiatives he has spearheaded the last good year or so. I felt like saying something more general about this outdated paradigm – and why it is dangerous for us all – referring also to the Russell-Einstein Manifesto of 1955. You may also see it as my statement countering the NATO Annual 2015 Report which lacks every intellectualism, theoretical/conceptual clarity, empathy, peace thinking and – naively – equates military  build-up with ‘security’.

The alleged Russian sub was a civilian plastic boat. And. . . ?

Swedish Admiral Admits ‘Russian Submarine’ Was Actually Civilian Boat” • The Moscow Times One wonders how many Swedes were seduced to believe that this was a Russian thing? And how many million dollars that search cost – and what effect such a “mistaken” photo had in terms of strengthening the Swedish military, increasing the budget and having the Nordic countries gang up to “deter” Russia. Good Lord, pure fearology – but with a purpose. We shall now await an apology from all Swedish media which without the slightest research just reproduced the military information at the time, no questions asked about the basics. This Admiral and his revelation will probably not go out over the whole world but those who see it, I guess, will think: Oh how the Swedish military is making a fool of itself. First such a stupid photo, then 6 months to reveal the blunder! (This story was also reported in Swedish by Dagens Nyheter).

Isn’t it time to boycott pro-Zionist media?

Listen very carefully to the eloquent PM Netanyahu here again giving it full blast thanks to CNN in an interview in which he (again) says nothing new. Why – just why – is his views given coverage again and again and again in Western media? Does the Iranian or other P5+1 get anywhere near the same media coverage (I can’t remember every having seen a Chinese diplomat talk about the Iran deal). And why does this happen with nobody mentioning the nuclear weapons – 200+ – that this state leader commands on the basis of political paranoia and autism? Why is nobody stopping him when he questions the legality of Iran’s nuclear civilian program and talks about terrorism while he as Israel’s leader is responsible for series of violations of international law and state terrorism? If this is the free press it is either knowingly or unknowingly pro-Zionist and Iranophobic or influenced – “bought” in money or other terms – by Israeli billionaires or agents. You can boycott commodites from countries you do not sympathize with – to send a signal. I wonder whether it isn’t time to boycott media that continue to disseminate pro-Zionist propaganda without covering relevant other angles and countries’ views – and do so again and again. If you anyhow watch it, write to the editor and protest the bias. Or stop using the media and let them rcognize that their viewer and visitor figures are […]

16 years since NATO started its war on Yugoslavia – all criminals still at large

Today – 16 years since NATO began to bomb Serbia and did so mercilessly for 78 days to carve out Kosovo as an independent state – still today a failed one. Remember that when you talk about Crimea today. Here is a link to “Yugoslavia – What Should Have Been Done?” – probably the world’s most comprehensive blog about the dissolution of Yugoslavia; it’s written since 1991 by three experts and published as they wrote it at the time. The people who masterminded this destruction without a UN mandate are all still at large – e.g. Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Javier Solana, Wesley Clark and Tony Blair – the latter, without an ounce of shame, today “adviser” to the government in… yes, oh yes, Belgrade! It was the largest ever NATO operation. It was conducted without a mandate from the UN Security Council. It was out-of-area and not in response to an attack on a member state according to Article 5 in NATO’s charter. It came in the wake of the – fraud – negotiations at the castle of Rambouillet outside Paris during which (the Serb and the the Albanian delegations never met face-to-face) the Serb side was forced to accept that NATO could roam around freely all over Serbia with no legal responsibility (and potentially arrest anyone, including President Milosevic) and without paying anything for it. That was when the Serbs said no – and NATO’s bombing started soon […]

The Saudi Arabia – Sweden row

Saudi Arabia recalled envoy to Sweden amid diplomatic row – YouTube video with Iranian PressTV. I comment on the Sweden-Saudi Aabia conflict, points out that it is good that Sweden introduces some ethical consideration but that it lacks a positive vision in Swedish foreign policy. Certainly Saudi Arabia – now the world’s largest arms importer – doesn’t need more weapons. It is wrong to cut dialogue opportunities as Saudi Arabia does – in the modern world, dialogue with respect is the name of the game: I would add that at last, a Western country stands up to Saudi Arabia on human rights. For once we can be a little proud of Sweden’s foreign policy. Germany has also stopped amrs exports to Saudi Arabia. Now, could the other EU countries – recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize – and the U.S. please do the same! Please see this appreciation of Sweden in the US. Ishaan Tharoor in The Washington Post •

Gun in hand – less motivated to negotiate

Syrian Rebels in Aleppo Reject UN Peace Effort Perhaps understandable but tragic. When all this began in Syria some of us – a clear minority and without any media interest – suggested an arms embargo on all sides and involvement of the UN. But “Friends of Syria”, hot-headed politicians and media people knew that arming the opposition and never talk with Al-Assad was the only way. We he opposed it were considered ‘naive” and ‘unrealistic’. Today we see the results: Weapons embold people. Such people believe they can win – somebody else paying the price, but do they care? – and say no to each and every mediated solution. And, so, the killing, suffering, and displacement of innocent Syrian citizens – squeezed between the ruthless government and the ruthless rebels – will go on. When will the world norm change and arms traders be put on trial as the war criminals they are – civil as well as governmental arms traders who “weaponize” conflicts so they cannot possibly be solved?
