Analyses, comments and opinion pieces in various Chinese media

In December 2021, I was invited to become a regular contributor of opinion pieces to China Daily. It has more than 52 million clicks online daily and about 40 million followers on social media – according to the latest (2016) data. It serves more than 330 million readers all over the world and is a default choice for people who read about China in English.

I accepted the invitation to be a contributing writer because I believe in dialogue and diversity.

This turned out to be only the beginning, and a couple of years later, I am contributing articles, analyses and comments to about 15 leading print media, TV programs, news bureaus and video channels on a regular basis. It’s mainly English editions but many of them are also printed and broadcast in Chinese and other languages.

I serve as a contributor to China Daily, Global Times, CGTN and CCTV (the national television), China Investment, Xinhua News Agency and several others. Articles and videos on these media very often multiply into uncountable Chinese (and Western media) that re-post them from these main media.

Thanks to The China Academy, these analyses, interviews and comments are frequently posted on YouTube channels such as Thinkers Forum and Wave Media. These videos are often re-posted on Bilibili (China’s YouTube), the China Content Center on TikTok, and on the Chinese edition of TikTok, Douyin.com.

This means reaching hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide over a year. While there are too many to catch on all these platforms and sites, let alone list or reproduce here on, please find below a comprehensive selection of them.

When you read these articles or watch a video, I recommend that you look around and learn about China and surely see what you never see in Western media about China and many other matters. You’ll also see lots of materials about the West. Likewise, when the readers of my articles see who I am and are directed to my home here, they get the opportunity to look around and visit The Transnational that I edit and TFF of which I am the director.

That’s how, with an open mind, we connect and learn about each other globally. And make friends. If we want to.

Over about 20 years, I have – once a week – disseminated TFF Associates’ and my own research and public education articles to, among others, thousands of Western media people and editorial offices. No one picked up any of it or invited me to contribute articles to them on a regular basis.

Since I know that some will think or ask: So, you are now on the payroll of the Chinese government? – the answer is: “Yes, I am, but it is only 2 or 3 that pay me any honorarium. And by the way, I do not see why the hours I spend on writing a professional column should not be remunerated. I get US$ 100-150 for each article of about 1000 words.”
